Happy new year everybody!

Seems like folks are still slowly getting back into the routine after the holidays… there are a few cool events going on, and if volunteerism is on you list of New Year’s resolutions, we’ll have a round up of Montavilla-area opportunities to get involved next week.

The conflict over homelesness in the neighborhood has been spotlighted in the Los Angeles Times.

Written by a Portland-based reporter, claims made in the story have been denied by the Montavilla Initiative members featured in the story (KPTV story), and comments from homeless advocate Ibrahim Mubarak have been updated.

Christmas tree recycling:

“Recycle your tree with Brentwood-Darlington Neighborhood Association and Pack 523! (Event) Drop off your un-decorated tree on January 5th, 9 am – 11 am at the Brentwood-Darlington Community Center (parking lot) and support two local organizations at once!

Thanks to local business The Green Man Tree Care, who provides this service to the neighborhood free of charge. This year, we are asking a suggested donation of $5, with 100% of proceeds going to benefit Pack 523 and Brentwood-Darlington Neighborhood Association.”

“Once Upon a Time Family Theatre is a magical mix of theatrical simplicity and grand storytelling for kids and their families. Though simply produced, these delightful and engaging productions will soon have everyone fully absorbed in the interaction of live theatre.”
